Dr. Shah brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to the field of retina care. With over two decades of experience in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgery, he is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge treatments for complex retinal conditions and providing exceptional care to his patients.
Educational Excellence and Professional Training
A native of India, Dr. Shah completed rigorous medical training, including a residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. After relocating to the United States in 2002, he further honed his skills through pre-residency fellowships in vitreoretinal diseases at the University of Florida – Jacksonville and neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Iowa.
During his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC), Dr. Shah distinguished himself as Chief Resident and earned the prestigious "Best Resident Ever" award for his exemplary leadership, teaching, research, and clinical acumen. He then completed a highly competitive fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, Michigan.

In 2011, Dr. Shah moved to Oklahoma to join the Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) and the University of Oklahoma. In March 2024, he joined Retina Consultants of Oklahoma, continuing his dedication to providing exceptional care for patients with retinal conditions. Dr. Shah’s innovative approach and meticulous surgical techniques have earned him recognition among peers and patients alike. Previously, he served as the Retina Fellowship Director at DMEI, where he expanded the fellowship program and was highly regarded as a mentor and teacher for the next generation of retina specialists.

He also directs popular instructional courses on integrating smartphones into ophthalmic practice at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meetings. Additionally, Dr. Shah is a prolific author, with over 90 publications and book chapters covering topics such as vitreoretinal disease, surgical techniques, and neuro-ophthalmologic disorders.
